Becoming an Art Therapist

Students often approach me wanting to learn more about the practice of Art Therapy as a career path. I am enouraged that Art Therapy has become a goal for so many aspiring helpers! After several years of fielding these calls and giving the same information several times over, I have now developed a two hour workshop that can comprehensively answer these potential Art Therapists have regarding practice, licensure, education, salary expectations, career options, controversies, and national and international organizations that shape Art Therapy as a field. Attendees are provided with a folder full of resources and information.

This workshop is held whenever I have received enough inquiries to warrent a meeting. Since most interested parties are in school and may not be working I offter this at a suggested fee of $20, but can work with individuals to find a price that fits in their budget.

The Effect of Cortisol on Executive Functioning

A two hour off-site training geared towards educators and mentors of children in high-stress environments. Defines what cortisol is and how it interacts with the body and mind. Using my experience working with parents in poverty or navigating a chaotic home life, I am able to clearly demonstrate how environmental stressors affect memory, behavior, problem solving, and many other tasks needed to succeed in school.
This talk includes information on how we may misinterpret executive dysfunction as a more stigmatized diagnosis such as Oppositional Defiant Disorder, ADHD, or Depression, and how we as caring adults can help support these kids and help them lower their stress response.
